What To Wear As Mother Of The Bride?
From the first fitting to the final toast, the Mother of the Bride (and Groom) deserves nothing less than timeless elegance. Get inspired by our guide designed to celebrate her moment in the spotlight.
TOP TIP:
It's better to be overdressed than underdressed when attending your child's big day. After all, you are the VIP guest for the day and you have an important role to play.
What does the Mother Of The Bride wear?
Choose a dress with an elegant silhouette, flowing fabric, and details such as lace, embroidery, or beadwork. A-line gowns, tea-length dresses, or midi styles are all popular choices. For modern, fashion-forward mums, jumpsuits offer a chic alternative to dresses. Look for flattering details such as wide legs, structured shoulders, or elegant draping. Shop amazing brands including The Couture Club, Sisters By Caroline Kilkenny, Phase Eight and more.
What colour does the Mother Of The Bride wear?
The ideal colour for the mother of the bride depends on the wedding palette and theme. Traditionally, she should avoid wearing white or ivory to not compete with the bride. Popular shades include pastels, jewel tones, neutrals and metallics, especially for a winter wedding. Complementing the bridal party’s colour scheme is a great rule of thumb.
What jewellery and accessories would suit the Mother Of The Bride?
From delicate drop earrings to statement necklaces, choose something to match the outfit beautifully. Less is often more, and choosing dainty and simple jewellery can wow just as much. For bags and accessories, a small clutch in a neutral colour often suits the outfit best and is the most practical! Fascinators or elegant hair bands add a touch of flair to the outfit and bring it all together. The goal with accessorising is making it timeless.
What shoes should the Mother Of The Bride wear?
Comfort is key here. The mother of the bride will be on her feet quite a bit throughout the day, so shoes need to be wearable. Mid-heels or dressy flat sandals with a comfortable sole that match the outfit will work best. Shop favourites from Dune London, Carvela and Sole Bliss.
What does the Mother Of The Groom wear?
The Mother Of The Groom traditionally follows a similar dress code as the Mother Of The Bride. Coordination between the two mothers can work out well for a harmonious look in wedding photos.
How should the Mother Of The Bride do her makeup?
Makeup for the mother of the bride should enhance natural beauty and photograph well. Apply hydrating skincare as a base before using long wearing foundation with a satin finish. Soft neutrals work well on the eyes, and subtle pink shades work well on the cheeks and lips. Finish with powder and setting spray to keep the look in place all day long.
