What is K-Beauty and why is it better?
Korean skincare, often referred to as K-Beauty, is globally recognised for its advanced formulations and skin-first philosophy. At the heart of K-Beauty is the pursuit of glass skin: a clear, dewy, and deeply hydrated complexion. Powered by ingredients like Centella Asiatica, snail mucin, and fermented extracts, Korean beauty brands are known for their gentle yet effective approach to skincare.
What is the Korean 10-step skincare routine?
The 10-step Korean skincare routine is a layered approach to skincare that focuses on hydration, gentle exfoliation, and targeted treatments. Here's a breakdown of the steps:
- Oil-based cleanser: Removes makeup and oil-based impurities as the first step of a double cleanse.
- Water-based cleanser: Washes away sweat, dirt, and residue for a fresh base.
- Exfoliator: Gently sloughs off dead skin cells using ingredients like glycolic acid.
- Toner: Balances pH and preps the skin for better absorption.
- Essence: A hydrating layer often enriched with snail mucin to promote radiance and elasticity.
- Serum/Ampoule: Delivers concentrated actives to address concerns like acne, fine lines, or dullness.
- Sheet Mask/Face Mask: A hydration boost packed with nourishing ingredients.
- Eye Cream: Targets the delicate under-eye area to reduce puffiness and signs of aging.
- Moisturiser: Locks in hydration and seals in previous layers.
- SPF: Essential for daily protection against UV damage, even on cloudy Irish days.
Is K-Beauty suitable for sensitive or acne-prone skin?
Yes, K-Beauty products are often formulated with calming, barrier-supporting ingredients ideal for sensitive or acne-prone skin . For sensitive skin, try the Dr. JART+ Ceramidin range, which helps strengthen the skin barrier. For acne-prone skin, look for niacinamide and salicylic acid in products from brands like Medicube. Always patch test new products to ensure compatibility with your skin.
