THE ORDINARY SQUALANE

It seems to us that Squalane is in fashion, and we are here for it. Discover the affordable brands secret ingredient to the ultra-moisturising products we love and adore

What is Squalane?

Squalane is a saturated oil that is used in skin care products as a moisturiser, it helps increase hydration and thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, it can help with acne and eczema.

What does it do?

Squalane helps to support the outer layer of your skin, deeply softening and smoothing it out. It locks in moisture by creating a protective barrier to reduce dryness, dullness and irritation. It's a non-comedogenic ingredient, meaning it doesn't block pores. That makes squalane a good alternative to other oils for sensitive or breakout-prone skin.

Where does it come from?

Squalane is a natural fat in the body secreted by the sebaceous glands. It's a hydrogenated, more stable form of squalene (with an e). These days squalane comes from plant sources like olives, beetroot and sugar cane.

Who should use it?

Squalane is safe to use multiple times a day and works with all skin types. It combines well with alpha hydroxy acids and retinol and is totally okay to use while pregnant.
