How white will my teeth go?

Tests prove that teeth score between 5 and 12 shades whiter and we would get an average shade improvement of 8 shades whiter on the 3D Vitapan shade scale. This is dependent on the type of staining and the mineral content contained within your teeth so results will therefore vary between individuals. Generally speaking, we will get your teeth back to the shade that they were when you were a teenager, this is usually as white as your teeth can naturally go which is different for each individual with natural white results. We guarantee a minimum of 5 shade whiter on the vita scale.

How long does it take?

The treatment itself takes about 45 minutes, when you come in we will go through everything with you, do a consultation and take shade measurements, so it usually takes about an hour in total. That is the complete treatment and you will see the results immediately after you have finished.

Is the treatment painful?

There is no pain involved in having our treatment, no needles or anything like that it is quite a comfortable experience.

Will my teeth feel sensitive afterwards?

We find that about find that about 1 in 10 people will feel temporary sensitivity afterwards and this is something that would last, in a worst case scenario for 24 hours. Very rarely we will get someone that will feel sensitivity during the treatment which means that you have hypersensitive teeth. In this case we have gels that are formulated specifically for people with hypersensitive teeth, and will change over to that gel at any point during the treatment if necessary.

How long does the treatment last?

The results last depending on your lifestyle, diet and aftercare routine, however it usually takes about 1 year to get back to the original shade that you were before coming into us. Normally we will get your teeth back to a shade they were when you were a teenager and then you will start the natural re-staining process as you were prior to having them whitened. Is the process harmful to teeth?

No, the effect on teeth is no different to the effect from commonly ingested foods or regular dental procedures. Our professional Teeth Whitening system has been proven to have no short or long term negative effects on the enamel of teeth, on the dentin of teeth or the gums. In fact it is specially formulated to improve general oral health, while whitening.

I’m getting married when should we get our teeth whitened?

Usually a good time to come in and get your teeth whitened would be about 3 weeks before getting married. If you wish to have them whitened sooner we would suggest to have them done and then use your free or discounted top-up again maybe a week before the wedding this way you will already know where we are and what to expect. The top-up treatment only takes 20 minutes and we get very good results with this if you have had them whitened within the last 12 months.

Will the treatment whiten crowns, veneers or false teeth?

The treatment is not designed to whiten caps, crowns or false teeth, it will however clean and restore the false teeth back to their original colour. It will remove all stains and plaque that may have built up on them and the natural teeth will be whitened as normal. Over time the false teeth or crowns will tend not to discolour as much as your natural teeth. If the crowns have been in for 4 years or more then you will probably notice the shade difference and when the treatment is done the teeth will get whitened back to the shade that they were when the crowns were put in.

In any case we will always do a no obligation consultation to make sure that we will achieve the desired results, which quite often will differ from person to person, depending on your own personal preferences. We can tailor each treatment for each individual. If you are planning to have a crown, bridge, filling or false tooth, it is recommended that you first have your teeth whitened. Your dentist will then be able to match the shade of the false tooth to your new colour.

Do I need to get a scale and polish before having my teeth whitened?

It is not necessary to have a scale and polish specifically prior to getting your teeth whitened, we recommend your regular visits to the dentist so just go whenever you are due. Any plaque or stains that have built up on the teeth as well as stains that have built up deep within the teeth will all be removed during the whitening treatment, however this is not a replacement for having a scale and polish as we only whiten about 18 front facing teeth that are in the natural smile. It would be necessary for you to have a scale and polish prior to having your teeth whitened if you have visible calculus (or tartar) built up on the outside of the teeth. Other than that just floss and brush on the day before coming in.

How soon can I get an appointment?

This is dependent on your own flexibility, we are open late nights on Thursdays and also open on Saturdays and Sundays, if you would like to reserve either of these times you would probably need to book in about two weeks in advance. If you are more flexible we might be able to fit you in within a couple of days’ notice.
