Becca and Reena from Malmö & Moss

"We are Becca and Reena from Malmö & Moss and Hygge for Home and we are interested in all things Scandi, whether it’s interiors, design, travel or lifestyle. Like all great romances these days we met online and quickly discovered we shared a love of Scandi design and decided to run workshops together. A dream came through last year where we got a publishing deal to write Scandi Rustic all about our love of this interior style. We are so excited to share our tips and tricks with you."

1. LIGHTING

“Lighting is next on my renovation to do list and I’ve actually got 47 lights to source. Like Scandinavia we face long and dark winters, our house is north facing, and despite having a lot of windows and roof lights, we still need artificial lighting. For statement lighting look no further than Normann Copenhagen, for a softer lighting moment in a room this copper cloche from Hay is perfect.” – Reena, Hygge for Home.

2. TEXTURE

“This is really the rustic side of our Scandi Rustic aesthetic. The Danes are great at layering texture and juxtaposing different finishes. Combing concrete walls with flowing linen curtains, for example proving that it’s all about the material that you choose. I love Himeya bedding for their linen cotton blend, tassels and fringing add a point of interest in rugs and cushions and no Scandi home is complete without a sheepskin.” – Becca, Malmö & Moss.

3. MATERIALS

“I’ve got a black wooden kitchen to echo my exterior into my interior. Timber is really important for both of our homes. We love Hay for their ash and oak furnishings, and hints of marble in accessories. Think subtle marble, not Versace palace marble.” – Reena, Hygge for Home.

4. FINISHING TOUCHES

“Key to displaying these finishing touches is open shelving. Interesting objects from travel and from your life really make a house a home. We’re a bit obsessed with scalloped edges at the moment, especially these Nosse plates.” – Reena, Hygge for Home.

5. COLOUR PALETTE

“We had traditionally thought of Scandinavian homes as being quite light and bright, but when we travelled there we found there were more colour palettes used in Scandi homes than we realised. In the book we discuss three main themes: Dark & Moody, Soft & Natural and Light & Bright. If you are choosing the first of these we recommend adding a hint through accessories such as ceramics, so you can flirt with the darker colours of the spectrum without taking the plunge by painting the walls.“ – Becca, Malmö & Moss.
