How to Mix and Match your Swimwear

As the world evolves, swimwear evolves with it. There are so many different designs that you can choose from to mix and match. We have curated some tips and tricks to help you feel comfortable, confident and stylish this summer.

Mix your prints: Don’t be afraid to mix your prints. Print mixing has become an increasingly more popular street style trend. If you are new to mixing and matching, then mixing solids is a safe place to start. Choose two colours that are matching or contrasting. You can pair up two different colours that compliment each other like a bright green and blue, or pair a bold red with a vibrant orange. If you’re wearing a loud print, pair it with something more traditional like stripes or a large print paired with a micro print. Pair your bold prints with a solid colour simple beach bag and square sunglasses for a chic and cool look.

Solid colours: A different coloured top and bottom can add a cool new dimension to your look. A classic favourite is a black bottom with a white top, though contrasting bright colours like bold red and a bright orange can look stunning too. Jazz up your look with an added scarf for your head or body or chunky jewellery for a luxurious look.

Solids and Prints: When pairing a print with a solid, make sure the solid colour is either included in the print or highly contrasting with the print for a consistent head-to-toe look. When mixing two complicated prints, stick with one colour pallet and make sure the prints are different enough from one another to really make a statement. Solid tops and printed bottoms offer the best balance. Don’t forget your sandals this summer, opt for a neutral brown to go with any colour for dressy and casual wear.

Consider silhouettes: There are a few ways to make sure the two pieces you choose to mix and match look like they are from one set. Make sure the coverage from your top and bottom are relatively similar. For example, mix sporty tops like racer backs with sporty bottoms like shorts and mix feminine tops like bralettes with feminine bottoms like high-waisted bottoms for added shape to your silhouette.

Dressing for your Shape:

Pear Shape: tend to have more curves on their bottom half around the thighs and hips but are smaller from the waist upwards. Think Beyonce or the Kardashian’s. Look for swimwear that can accentuate your top half, while giving enough coverage on your bottom half to make you feel comfortable. Try plunge suits, one shoulder swimsuits or ruffled bikini tops by Anita with high waisted bikini bottoms to balance your body shape and make you look and feel absolutely fabulous.

Fuller Bust: For ladies measuring at an E cup or above, added support from swimwear can be extremely important. Celebrities such as Katie Perry and Sofia Vergara are your style inspiration. Look for bra-style tops from Fantasie with either underwired support or stiffer fabric. Try wired triangles tops and high-rise bottoms or a square neck one piece to keep the girls supported and secured.

Smaller Busts: A or B cups fall into this category alongside the likes of Ariana Grande or Natalie Portman. For flatter chests you can experiment with frills, ruffles and patterns without the worry of needing additional support. For a little lift opt for additional padding. Some styles to try are a ruffle one-piece swimsuit, triangle tie bikini from Seafolly, or a deep v bikini top with additional padding to emphasise your cleavage.

Athletic Frame: With a straighter frame and fewer curves, those with an athletic build tend to have a more muscular figure. Think Miley Cyrus or Jennifer Aniston. Enhance your athletic build with a square neck bikini or a U back one-piece swimsuit from Sweaty Betty. If you rather create curves, try belts, ruffles and stripes. High waisted bottoms help create an hourglass silhouette.

Tummy Control: Whether you're postpartum, carry weight around your middle or just want to keep your torso covered, many women opt for tummy concealing swimsuits to help feel more streamlined in the middle. Choose fabrics that can help streamline in a similar way to shapewear. Bold prints all over the swimsuit can take the attention away from the tummy and still provide style. Try out crinkle one-pieces, adjustable strap bikinis or striped patterns to help highlight your waist too from Jets. Shop our range of swimwear online and in-store at Arnotts.
