What are the different types of fragrances available?

Perfumes and fragrances can be split into different scent families.  If you are buying a fragrance as a gift, try and think of the other perfumes this person usually wears, or go with a perfume that would best fit their personality. In doubt, something light and fresh is less likely to gather dust on a shelf, rather than a powerful and unique scent.


Fresh: usually includes citrus notes, green leaves, marine notes.
These fragrances are usually zesty, energetic, crisp and refreshing.

Floral: white flowers, jasmine, rose, gardenia, peony.
A popular scent family, these perfumes are typically romantic and feminine.

Oriental:  vanilla, spices, patchouli, cinnamon, amber, nutmeg.
Passionate and confident, bursting with warm and spicy notes.

Woody (for ladies): warm woods, moss, citrus
Nutty and spicy scents for free-spirited individuals.

Woody (for men): cedar, moss, vetiver, agarwood
A scent for the confident man,  sensual and mysterious.

Aromatic (for men): lavender, citrus, geranium, ginger.
Best suited for independent and masculine individuals.


What concentration should I choose?
Eau de parfum provides a long-lasting and intense fragrance, and is more concentrated than an Eau de toilette, which makes for a light scent that does not linger.

Eau de Cologne tends to be a light and fresh fragrance, usually suitable both for men and women.
